Baby Driver – Review. Entertaining movie!
Went to see Baby Driver today. Heard it was really good so I had big expectations. Not always a good thing. Looking online its currently 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and 86% Metacritic. (The ratings on both these sites have its issues but its a good indication).
I had seen the trailer for Baby Driver – I try to avoid trailers as they always seem to have spoilers nowadays – but I think I either saw the trailer before another movie or it was one of the movies I knew nothing about so may have watched the teaser/trailer just to see what it was about. It looked good and don’t think there were really any spoilers. I had also heard that music players are really big part of the movie. I also knew the director (and he also wrote screenplay) was Edgar Wright and I am a fan of his movies.
This is his 5th movie and I have liked all but one. The 5 movies he was director are Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I love Shaun of the Dead – one of my favourite movies ever. Hot Fuzz was pretty good, not really fan of The World’s End and Scott Pilgrim is good.
Back to Baby Driver. The movie was really entertaining, funny (not LOL/full on comedy type of movie though), its a bit different with its style and as you would expect some good car chases. Although I think there was just 2 or 3 car chases so maybe needed another?
Its also a good case with likes of Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx – actually, several of the actors in the movie are involved in the music world. Another reason this movie has such as good “music link”. Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx both sing and others include Flea The movie even has Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Jon Hamm and Sky Ferreira. The main actor is Ansel Elgort – he’s not been in too many movies. This is only his 7th movie – he was uncredited in another. Only movie I have seen him in was Allegiant which isn’t a particularly good movie – can’t remember him much from it. But he was good in this movie. Lily James was OK – she didn’t have a whole lot to do. I didn’t realise she was English (didn’t watch Downton Abbey) – she does a good American accent in this movie.
But as I mentioned above, music plays an important part of the movie. Part of the story is that main character, called Baby, listened to music basically the whole movie because he has tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and music stops him hearing the ringing. And its not just having a soundtrack in the movie but certain things happen to the beat/rhythm of the song being played.
If you have not seen movie, I recommend watching it. Here is the trailer to give you more of an idea of what its about:
